The Mermaid that Got Away

I used to a personal stylist for Nordstrom … I worked there on and off in college and continued—on and off—working for the massive, upscale retail giant for a few years thereafter. And, unlike most of the “poor souls” working retail, I happened to love it … on most days. I mean hey, I was educated in some of the elusive houses—Channel, St. John, Kristopher Kane—and had the privilege of helping people find clothes that fit not only their bodies, but their lifestyle and personality. And I loved it! Loved the sound of my shoes clicking along the marble floor, loved the anticipation of what would be delivered on truck days, loved the killer discount and the glorious clothes I was able to add to my wardrobe that without the discount, probably never would have made it to my closet.

But. For all the things I did buy, and for all the things I didn’t (which, admittedly, wasn’t much), there is still one thing that eludes me … one thing I should’ve bought but didn’t. One thing that to this day, I still search for on Ebay … Mars and Valentine’s mermaid ring. Sigh. Maybe … just maybe if I sigh loud enough the siren will hear me and show up in my mailbox someday. She’s lovely, isn’t she?

What about you? Has there ever been a purchase you wish you made but didn’t? I mean we all have purchases we regret making, but what about the ones we pass by and regret? What is yours?
